To My Dear Friends and Family,
I am so blessed and thankful to soon be celebrating another birthday with freedom, liberty, dignity, safety and peace. My only birthday wish is to help those in Gaza who do not have these privileges by fundraising for UNWRA during my birthday month. I understand that many of you have already donated to many other worthy causes, but the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has been ravaging for a decade and is at an all time high after the most recent military attacks. No donation is too small and if you prefer not to donate, please at least read my message and learn more about the wonderful work that UNWRA does.
....."The recent Israeli military operation in Gaza damaged 17 hospitals and clinics in Gaza, wrecked its only coronavirus test laboratory, sent fetid wastewater into its streets and broke water pipes serving at least 800,000 people, setting off a humanitarian crisis that is touching nearly every civilian in the crowded enclave of about two million people.
Sewage systems inside Gaza have been destroyed. A desalination plant that helped provide fresh water to 250,000 people in the territory is offline. Dozens of schools have been damaged or closed, forcing some 600,000 students to miss classes. Some 72,000 Gazans have been forced to flee their homes. And at least 213 Palestinians have been killed, including dozens of children.
The level of destruction and loss of life in Gaza has underlined the humanitarian challenge in the enclave, already suffering under the weight of an indefinite blockade by Israel and Egypt even before the latest conflict." New York Times, 5/20/2021
This adds yet another layer of conflict and distress preceded by a decade of socioeconomic anorexia due to land, sea and air blocades leaving 80 per cent of the population dependent on international assistance. The economy and its capacity to create jobs have been devastated.
The number of Palestine refugees relying on UNRWA for food assistance has increased from fewer than 80,000 in 2000 to almost one million today. Access to clean water and electricity remains at crisis level and impacts nearly every aspect of life in Gaza.
UNRWA is the only UN agency dedicated to supporting Palestine refugees, and that’s why I have started this fundraising. Will you join me?
Your donation will allow UNRWA to continue to provide lifesaving services to Palestine refugees. From emergency cash and food assistance to education and healthcare, UNRWA is transforming the lives of Palestine refugee children and their families every day.
Please donate to my campaign, anything you can give is a huge help.
